Damping refers to the process of delaying the response speed of a signal so that the output signal is smoother. In pressure transmitters, the role of damping is to stabilize the output signal by slowing down the speed of pressure changes and improve measurement accuracy.
Normally, the output signal of a pressure transmitter responds immediately after a pressure change, but such a signal can fluctuate due to pressure transients. In order to avoid such fluctuations, the signal needs to be delayed by a damping device. Damping devices are usually made of liquids, gases, or mechanical devices, and their principle is to delay the response rate of pressure changes by means of a certain resistance or damping material. In this way, when the pressure changes, the output signal does not fluctuate violently, but is output smoothly.
For example, cavitation, hammer and peak pressures can occur in a filling system, such as when a valve is closed quickly, or when a pump is started and closed. This can occur mainly at the inlet and outlet ends, even at very low operating pressures. The installation of damping inside the sensor solves this problem very well.
